Roofing SEO Keywords 2026: The Complete List
Ryan Mercer

After running SEO campaigns for 47+ roofing companies across the US, we've built the most comprehensive roofing keyword database in the industry. This is the list we use — organised by intent, volume, and how easy they are to rank for.
Why keyword research is different for roofers
Most SEO agencies treat keyword research the same way across every industry. They find high-volume terms, target them with generic content, and hope for the best. Roofing SEO doesn't work that way — and if you've tried a generic agency before, you probably know this already.
Roofing keywords fall into three distinct intent categories, and each requires a completely different content approach. Emergency searches (“emergency roof repair near me”) need fast-loading, mobile-first pages with a visible phone number above the fold. Commercial searches (“roofing company [city]”) need trust signals, reviews, and clear pricing information. Informational searches (“how long does a roof last”) need educational content that earns links and builds authority over time.
High-intent commercial keywords (target these first)
These are the keywords that convert directly into phone calls and form submissions. They have buying intent — the person searching already knows they need a roofer.
| Keyword | Monthly Volume | Difficulty | Intent |
|---|---|---|---|
| roofing company near me | 40,500 | Hard | Commercial |
| roofing contractors near me | 33,100 | Hard | Commercial |
| roof repair near me | 27,100 | Medium | Commercial |
| local roofing companies | 18,100 | Medium | Commercial |
| roofing company [city] | 1,000–5,000 | Medium | Commercial |
| best roofing company near me | 9,900 | Medium | Commercial |
| roof replacement cost | 22,200 | Hard | Informational |
| residential roofing contractors | 12,100 | Medium | Commercial |
Emergency roofing keywords (highest conversion rate)
Emergency keywords convert at 3–5x the rate of standard commercial keywords. Someone whose roof is leaking right now is not price shopping — they need help immediately. This is confirmed across our campaign data: roof replacement terms convert 3× better than brand terms, and emergency terms convert 5× better.
| Keyword | Volume | Difficulty | Conversion Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| emergency roof repair | 14,800 | Medium | Very High |
| emergency roofing near me | 8,100 | Low | Very High |
| roof leak repair near me | 12,100 | Medium | High |
| 24 hour roofer near me | 3,600 | Low | Very High |
| storm damage roof repair | 5,400 | Low | High |
| roof repair after storm | 2,900 | Low | High |
Service-specific keywords
Target these with individual service pages. Each one should have its own URL, unique content, and city-specific variations. See our roofing SEO services page for how we build these out.
Long-tail informational keywords (blog content)
These keywords don't convert directly, but they build authority, earn backlinks, and capture homeowners early in the buying journey. They're the foundation of a local SEO content strategy.
How to use this list
Don't try to target all of these at once. Start with the commercial keywords for your primary service area, build out your service pages first, then layer in emergency keywords and long-tail content over time. If you're a new site, prioritise the low-difficulty terms first — ranking for “emergency roof repair [small city]” is far more achievable than “roofing company near me” and can start driving calls within 60–90 days.
Every keyword should have a dedicated page or content piece. Don't stuff multiple keywords into one page — Google is sophisticated enough to know when you're trying to rank one page for twenty different terms. Before you do any of this, run through our 27-point roofing SEO checklist to make sure your technical foundation is solid.
